Step by step

Numbed first, then looked after.

Illustrations only. Every case is different, and results differ from person to person.

  1. Consultation

The dentist checks the tooth and explains why it cannot be saved. An X-ray may be needed, depending on how complex the case is. You hear the plan and the cost at your consultation, before anything starts.

  2. The area is numbed

A numbing gel goes on first, then local anaesthetic.

  3. The tooth is removed

The dentist tells you each step before doing it. Raise a hand at any time and we stop.

  4. Gauze and rest

You bite on gauze as instructed and rest for the remainder of the day.

  5. Replacing the tooth

The dentist explains the options for replacing it: an implant, a bridge or a denture.

Looking after it

The first few days at home.

These are the things we ask every patient to do after a tooth is removed.

Rest that day

Bite on the gauze as instructed and rest for the remainder of the day.

Soft, cool food

Soft and cool food at first. Avoid hot food and drinks at first.

Protect the area

No straws, forceful spitting or smoking for the first days, so the area can heal.

Ask about replacing it

The dentist explains whether an implant, a bridge or a denture suits you.
