Consultation and X-ray
A panoramic X-ray shows how the tooth sits and whether it has room. You hear the plan and the cost at your consultation, before anything starts.
The area is numbed
Local anaesthetic numbs the area. A numbing gel goes on before the injection.
The tooth is removed
The removal itself usually takes about 30 to 60 minutes and is done in one visit.
Stitches and gauze
The gum is usually stitched. You bite on gauze as instructed and rest for the remainder of the day.
Follow-up visit
About a week later we check how you are healing and remove the stitches.
Looking after it
The first few days at home.
Swelling and soreness for a few days are normal. These are the things we ask every patient to do.
Rest that day
Bite on the gauze as instructed and rest for the remainder of the day.
Soft, cool food
Soft and cool food for the first day or two. Avoid hot food and drinks at first.
Protect the area
No straws, forceful spitting or smoking for the first days, so the area can heal.
Medicine
Take the medicine the dentist prescribes, as advised.
